Mulch is a by-product of chipping up branches from trees that have been trimmed or removed, but it doesn't have to go to waste. Here are a few uses for mulch that you may not have considered.

#1 - Garden cover. Mulch is great for keeping the weeds down and providing nutrients to the soil. it also helps the soil retain water in the summer, and protect the finer roots of plants in the winter.

#2 - Animal bedding. Deciduous trees mulched during late winter provide mulch with minimal leaf matter. these wood chips work as great bedding for calves - just in time for calving season in spring.

#3 - Play areas. Mulch is a great base for kids play areas. It can be spread around playgrounds or under the trampoline, as it provides a softer landing for those daredevil stunts or accidental tumbles.
